Teaching Faculty Position for Undergraduate Laboratories
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame seeks applicants for a full-time teaching faculty position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. This position is a long-term renewable appointment. Responsibilities will be primarily in undergraduate general chemistry laboratories and will include coordinating multiple lab sections and managing teaching assistants. Successful candidates will be expected to assume leadership roles in the department’s undergraduate program, which is nationally recognized for teaching excellence.
A preferred candidate will have experience and enthusiasm for undergraduate laboratory curriculum development and implementation. This faculty position will carry the title of Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor depending upon extent of prior experience. Preference will be given to candidates having a Ph.D. in chemistry (or related field) and an independent track record of teaching and working with teaching assistants in a laboratory environment at the college/university level. We seek candidates who have experience in educating students from a variety of backgrounds for success in STEM.

Postdoctoral
Postdoctoral Researcher in RNA Biochemistry
The DasGupta Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in RNA biochemistry. We are a young lab seeking to reconstruct the origins of RNA-based cellular life using a wide range of approaches including, but not restricted to, in vitro RNA evolution, structural biology, RNA enzymology, and synthetic cell research. Our primary interests are in resurrecting RNA enzymes or ribozymes of the RNA World using laboratory evolution in order to explore the biochemical limits of primordial life. We are also interested in understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying RNA evolution. If you are interested in learning about and working on the origins of life and/or evolutionary problems, come on board! We are also developing RNA-based tools to interrogate frontier problems in RNA biology. Our lab straddles both extinct and extant RNA Worlds.
Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: nucleic acid chemistry and biochemistry (RNA experience preferred), in vitro selection/directed evolution of nucleic acids, X-ray crystallography, and synthetic cell/protocell work. You will be trained in various aspects of RNA science. We are an extremely collaborative group - we prefer to solve problems and learn together. You will also get opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Summer Research Experience for High School Students
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry runs a Summer Research Experience Program for high school students. Students perform research in faculty laboratories on campus related to a variety of topics important in the fields of chemistry and/or biochemistry.
