Research Interests

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a powerful method to interrogate small and large molecules at the atomic level. In chemistry and biochemistry, NMR spectroscopy allows one to determine structure and conformation of molecules as well as to monitor their dynamic changes in the course of chemical reactions. NMR signals are also sensitive to subtle interactions between molecules, providing a unique window into the molecular interaction mechanisms. Biological polymers such as proteins and nucleic acids often undergo complex multi-step rearrangements between different conformations to accommodate their ligands—readily followed by the NMR spectroscopy to reveal their functional significance.

The Magnetic Resonance Research Center is a state-of-the-art NMR facility serving inorganic, organic, and biological chemists and material scientists at the University of Notre Dame and beyond. Seven NMR instruments ranging from 300 to 800 MHz are available for use by students, postdocs, and faculty for solution and solid-state NMR experiments. The Center provides individualized user training and supports continuous development of advanced NMR pulse programs and software for NMR data analysis to facilitate competitive cutting-edge research.
