Diversity & Inclusion

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, in recognizing that diverse communities give rise to valuable scientific and social perspectives, aspires to create, sustain, and celebrate an inclusive environment for all of its citizens. We view diversity in the broadest terms to include gender identity, race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, disability status, parental/marital status, citizenship status, age, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, and other salient and non-salient identities. The culture of the department is committed to prepare all of its members to enjoy unparalleled success in the global chemistry community, which is becoming increasingly diverse. As such, we seek to recruit and retain students, faculty, and staff from diverse groups that are often underrepresented. In pursuing this goal, the department emphasizes education and information on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, and we encourage our citizens to explore the gateways and resources listed below. We are proud to support the Chemistry Graduate Student Organization (CGSO) whose members seek to cultivate an inclusive spirit of community for all interested chemistry and biochemistry graduate students by offering social outlets and professional development opportunities. In striving to maintain a supportive and collegial climate as well as a principled workplace, the Department promptly addresses all forms of harassment and the perpetuation of stereotypes and misconceptions.
