Author: Alec Hipshear

Professor Bradley D. Smith will be appointed to the Emil T. Hofman Chair in Chemistry and Biochemistry effective in the new academic year. Brad has been a model colleague in teaching, research, and service at Notre Dame for the past 17 years. He has reached a high level of leadership and reputation in research that merits this
high distinction.

Both nationally and internationally, Brad is a recognized leader in supramolecular chemistry applied to biological systems. Within the field of supramolecular chemistry, Brad is unique in that he designs, synthesizes, and studies small organic molecules that affect the dynamic properties of biological membranes. More recently, Dr. Smith has created molecular probes for imaging tumors and tissues to detect cancer and infections. He currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Journal of the American Chemical Society and the Science Advisory Council for Research Corporation.
