Prashant Kamat, Rev. John A. Zahm Professor, is the recipient of the 2026 Nicholas J. Turro Award from the Inter-American Photochemical Society. This award recognizes sustained contributions in photochemical sciences that have transformed or developed the field.

Kamat’s research focuses on three general categories, including the design of nanostructured materials for energy conversion and storage, the development of photocatalysts and electrocatalysts for energy storage and solar fuels, and the use of carbon nanostructures in sensing, fuel cells, and solar devices. His work has led to breakthroughs in the design of hybrid next-generation solar cells, increased understanding of the photoinduced processes in quantum dot and perovskite solar cells, and fundamental understanding of interfacial charge transfer processes.

Kamat’s impact on photochemical science is extensive. His work had led to over 500 peer-reviewed publications with more than 75,000 citations, leading to his placement on the Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) most cited researchers list since 2014. He is the Editor-in-Chief of ACS Energy Letters, and he is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society, the American Chemical Society, and the AAAS.
