Viktor Krchnak in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame played a significant role in forging an agreement between the Department of Organic Chemistry of Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and the University of Notre Dame in establishing the new Center for High Throughput Organic Synthesis at Palacky University.

The Center's mission is to design and develop efficient syntheses of novel drug-like molecules and use synthetic protocols for production of compound libraries for high throughput screening. The process has now begun of hiring PhD students and postdocs for their first project which is focused on the design and synthesis of compounds with potential to disrupt protein-protein interactions. Computer-aided compound selection and screening will be carried out in collaboration with Purdue University Professor V. Jo Davisson.
