Levi Cherek (B.S. ’25) has been selected to receive a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship provides three years of support to graduate students who have demonstrated the potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. Cherek, an honors biochemistry major with a minor in scientific computing, is currently in the doctoral chemistry program at the University of Chicago, working in the lab of Haig P. Papazian Distinguished Service Professor Gregory Voth.
Current undergraduates Charles Desnoyers and Thomas Reimer and first-year graduate student Allison Portaro, were selected as alternates for the fellowship. Desnoyers plans to attend Northwestern University in the fall to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry. At ND, he was an NDNano Undergraduate Research Fellow and Slatt Scholar. Reimer plans to pursue a doctoral degree in chemistry at Princeton University in the fall. He is a Goldwater Scholar and recipient of the American Chemical Society Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Portaro, who is co-advised by Assistant Professor Kaiyu Fu and Professor Jon Camden, is a Richard and Peggy Notebaert Fellow.
