Three faculty members from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame have been elected to 2026 leadership positions in the American Chemical Society (ACS).
Assistant Professor Adam Jaffe was selected as Solid-State Chair-Elect in the Division of Inorganic Chemistry. Jaffe’s research focuses on developing new hybrid material platforms that combine the diverse chemical properties of organic molecules with the desirable structural and electronic properties of crystalline inorganic solids. Jaffe is an NSF Career Award winner and a Scialog Fellow of the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
Associate Professor Emily Tsui was selected as Nanoscience Chair-Elect in the Division of Inorganic Chemistry. Tsui’s research combines principles and techniques from bioinorganic, organometallic, and nanomaterials chemistry to develop new catalysts with enhanced activity and selectivity for chemical synthesis, liquid fuels production, and energy storage. Tsui is also an NSF Career Award winner and a Scialog Fellow of the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
Teaching Professor Steve Wietstock was selected as Chair-Elect of the Division of Chemical Education. Wietstock’s work focuses on the role of experiential learning in student development and has particular interest in the use of green chemistry in teaching laboratories. Wietstock has also played a key role in the Division of Chemical Education Biennial Conference Committee for many years.
