Steven Corcelli, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, will serve as interim William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science beginning July 1, 2025.

Santiago Schnell, the current dean, has been appointed provost of Dartmouth and will begin his new role there in July. He has led the College of Science since 2021.

"Serving as interim Dean of the College of Science is an incredible honor," Corcelli said. "Dean Schnell’s leadership has positioned the college for continued excellence and impact. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support our outstanding students, faculty, and staff in sustaining and accelerating the college’s momentum during this transition."

Corcelli, a former associate dean for interdisciplinary studies and faculty development in the College of Science from 2019-2022, earned his doctoral degree in chemistry from Yale University. After completing a postdoctoral research position at the University of Wisconsin, he joined Notre Dame’s faculty as an assistant professor in 2005 and earned full professorship in 2017. Corcelli was named department chair in Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2022.

Additionally, he is a fellow of the American Chemical Society and has received various teaching and research awards during his time at Notre Dame.

"Science at Notre Dame is deeply connected to both discovery and human flourishing," Corcelli said. "As interim Dean, I aim to advance initiatives that push the frontiers of research and prepare our trainees to lead lives of meaning and purpose."

The University will convene a search committee in early fall to lead an international search for a new dean, according to the Office of the Provost at Notre Dame.
