He is being honored for distinguished contributions to the chemical physics of nanomaterials, especially ultrafast studies of the dynamics of electrons and phonons in metallic and semiconductor nanoparticles. Prof. Hartland has been a member of the faculty at the University of Notre Dame for 15 years.
He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and serves as a Senior Editor of the Journal of Physical Chemistry.
