Jeffrey Peng

Jeffrey Peng, associate professor for chemistry and biochemistry and concurrent associate professor of physics was recently selected to serve a three-year term on the editorial board of Biophysical Journal beginning July 1, 2015.

Peng’s research works at the interface of the physical and biological sciences to illuminate the role of atomic motion in biomolecular recognition and evolution. Working with multi-dimensional NMR, his research group focuses on both methods development, and applications to several proteins of therapeutic interest.  Long term, the group seeks a fundamental understanding of the logic and evolution of protein interaction networks that includes protein conformational dynamics. This has relevance for understanding the molecular basis for disease and drug resistance. Additionally, they are looking for new methods for including flexibility information in iterative drug design. Their NMR studies are complemented with molecular dynamics calculations, protein biochemistry, and collaborations with groups focused on medicinal chemistry.

Biophysical Journal is the leading international journal for original research in molecular, cellular, and systems biophysics. Modern biophysics is a broad field encompassing the study of biological structures with a focus on mechanisms at the molecular, cellular, and systems level using the concepts and methods of physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, and computational science. Patricia Clark is currently serving a second term as an editor for the journal.
