Ribbon Diagram of the Pertactin Virulence Factor
The pertactin parallel β-helix topology provides an excellent model system to ask detailed questions about parallel β-sheet formation. We are also investigating the outer membrane secretion mechanism of this and related virulence factors from pathogenic gram-negative bacteria. Red stick figures highlight the locations of seven Trp residues, used for fluorescence kinetic measurements.
